About Castr

It all started in Newfoundland.

Every company has a beginning. Ours started in Newfoundland, Canada, in 2018, with a small team, a big idea, and a few lessons we had already learned the hard way.

Before Castr, we were working on something much bigger. We had spent a long time building a streaming product with all kinds of features, convinced that we needed to get everything just right before putting it out into the world.

But the more we built, the further away the launch seemed to get.

Eventually, we decided to try something different. Instead of waiting until everything was ready, we took one part of what we had built — multistreaming — and launched it on its own.

That was the beginning of Castr.

Govinda founded the company with Asha and Gokul. We didn’t have everything figured out, but we had something people could actually use. And this time, we were going to let them tell us what they needed next.

We started small. Our customers helped us grow.

The first version of Castr was free.

There was no big launch campaign or elaborate plan to take over the streaming world. We simply put the product out there, and slowly, people began finding us through search and hearing about us from others.

They signed up. They tried it. And then something interesting happened.

They started asking for more.

Some wanted to stream live video directly on their websites. Others needed a place to host their videos, run 24/7 channels, or charge viewers for access to their content.

Each request gave us something new to think about. Some became features. Others pushed us to rethink what Castr could be.

Little by little, the platform grew beyond the simple multistreaming tool we had originally released.

Looking back, that’s one of the things we appreciate most about our journey. Castr wasn’t built entirely around a plan we made in the beginning. It grew through real conversations with people who were using it, running into challenges, and trusting us to help solve them.

In 2019, we joined the Genesis incubation program in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It was another meaningful chapter in those early years.

Today, our team works remotely from different places, and our customers stream to audiences around the world.

Behind every stream, there’s someone counting on it.

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that a live stream is rarely just a live stream.

It might be a business launching something important. A production team bringing months of preparation together. A creator connecting with an audience they’ve worked hard to build. Or someone managing a live event where everything needs to work, because there are no second takes.

We understand that responsibility.

When someone chooses Castr, they’re trusting us with something that matters to them. And we don’t take that lightly.

That’s why we spend so much time thinking about the things most people never see — the servers, the delivery networks, the infrastructure, and all the small technical decisions that can make a big difference when a broadcast goes live.

We’re particular about the technology we use. Sometimes that means spending more to get the level of quality we believe our customers deserve.

And for us, this isn’t just a business decision. It’s work we genuinely enjoy.

Govinda has been working with live video since 2015 and remains closely involved in Castr’s technology today.

“I’ve been working with live video since 2015, and I still get excited when a big event goes live. I like watching the traffic, checking the servers, and seeing how everything is running. It’s still one of my favourite parts of building Castr.”

That excitement has stayed with us.

As Castr grows, we still care about the little details and finding ways to make things better, so our customers can confidently take on bigger opportunities knowing we’re growing with them.

We’re here for the long term.

Whether you’re streaming a single event or building a streaming business, we’ve got your back.

You don’t have to be our biggest customer to matter to us.

Castr isn’t backed by venture capital, and we didn’t build it with a plan to sell it. We built it because we loved working with streaming technology. We still do, and we plan to keep running it for many years.

Running a healthy business lets us keep improving Castr and supporting our customers. But we care about what happens after you sign up, too. Whether you have a question, need help with an event or are planning a new service, we want you to feel comfortable talking to us. We enjoy helping you figure things out.

Our hope is that you try Castr for one event and find a team you want to keep working with. As your business grows, we’d love to grow with you.
